Discover Parkland serves as a community resource for local artists and storytellers, to promote and benefit a healthy Parkland community.
Discover Parkland seeks to:
- Highlight local stories and ideas, making them available to the entire Parkland community,
- Equip aspiring local artists and communicators to generate local stories and ideas about the Parkland community, and
- Strengthen the identity and image of the Parkland community by lifting up the local voices and perspectives.

Realtor, Collison Realty LLC
Julie Collison is a native Tacoman who has lived in the Parkland area since 1992. She is a licensed Realtor with a background in Title Insurance and Mortgage Banking. She owns Collison Realty LLC, and is also the Designated Broker of Suburban Realty Inc., both located in the beautiful Parkland area. She is Secretary of the Parkland Spanaway Rotary Club, the Vice President of the Parkland Community Association and a member of Parkland’s Garfield Street Business Association and the South Sound Chapter of the Tacoma Chamber of Commerce. She is also president of the Lincoln High School Alumni Association.
Julie loves hanging out with her 5 children and her granddaughter. Her interests include singing, organizing, reading, riding dirt bikes, playing baseball and basketball and gardening. A founding member of Discover Parkland, Julie is proud of the growth and development happening in Parkland and welcomes your comments or questions.
Kevin is a Tacoma based writer and photographer. He is a staff writer at War is Boring where he writes about military affairs and history, and writes the True War Stories comic series. He has also written and shot for Michael Yon’s Frontline Forum, The Puyallup Herald, The Peninsula Gateway, and Discover Parkland. His Photography clients have included Northern Pacific Coffee Company and The Cottonwood Cutups.
Kevin moved to Parkland from Portland, OR to study at Pacific Lutheran University, where he received a BA in History and a minor in Communications. He’s also studied in the United Kingdom and United Arab Emirates. He has been working with Discover Parkland since February 2012.
Dr. Joanne Lisosky, (Ph.D.)
Professor, PLU Department of Communication
Dr. Lisosky is a professor of communication at Pacific Lutheran University where she teaches journalism and communication law classes. She has served two Fulbright awards teaching journalism in Kampala Uganda and Baku Azerbaijan. She co-authored, “War on Words: Who Should Protect Journalists?” in 2011.
Director, PLU Center for Community Engagement
A 2005 graduate of PLU, Joel directs the university’s Center for Community Engagement and Service, which exists to connect PLU students, staff and faculty with the local community. He has experience in community development and organizing in Tacoma, Cincinnati and Nairobi, Kenya where he designed and coordinated a masters program for urban leaders living and serving in slum communities.
Joel lives in Tacoma with his spouse Mandy who is a teacher at Stewart Middle School. He holds a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
